Gradient tool

The Gradient tool lets you create a gradual blend between colors using Linear, Radial, or Focal Radial gradients.

  1. Click on the Gradient tool or press .
  2. Click on a shape to change the Fill or Stroke to a gradient, depending on which one is active in the Appearance panel.
    • Press to toggle between Fill or Stroke.
  3. Change the gradient type in the Appearance panel (Linear, Radial, Focal Radial).

Gradient settings

Linear gradient

  1. In Paint panel click on the button to switch to linear gradient.
  2. Hold while moving the gradient handle to lock it to a 15° increments angle snapping.
  3. Hold to resize the gradient symmetrically from the center.

Radial gradient

  1. In Paint panel click on the button to switch to radial gradient.
  2. Move the Central Point or modify the radius of the gradient

Focal Radial gradient

  1. In Paint panel click on the button to switch to focal radial gradient.
  2. Move the Central Point or modify the radius of the gradient
    • Hold to move only the Central point
  3. Move the Focal Point or modify the focal radius.
    • Hold to constraint the focal point within the radius of the gradient.
